Garcia positive despite elimination: "There wasn't the explosion or frustration we often saw last year"
Absent from the circuit since September, Caroline Garcia lost to Naomi Osaka in the 1st round of the Australian Open on her return to competition.
Despite a lack of rhythm and match play, the Frenchwoman, now ranked 67th in the world, was satisfied with her performance on Rod Laver Arena :
"There really was a match. I'm happy to have been able to play, to have stayed in the match after losing the first set and after having had some complicated moments.
On the slightly more important points, she hit harder, she was a little more aggressive than me and she won."
Going into the 2025 season with a new mindset, Garcia remained serene on court despite the match scenario: "The big positive since I arrived here is that I've been able to do some good training.
And even if one day it wasn't great, it didn't spoil my whole week.
Today, I was obviously tense, there were ups and downs. But when it's like that, I'm more able to open up and express myself.
It relaxes me and I get into a state of mind where I'm calmer.
When I make a mistake or I'm under pressure, today there wasn't the frustration or explosion we often saw last year. It was unbearable for my team."
