Garcia, Still Struggling with Back Injury, Withdraws from WTA 1000 Rome

Caroline Garcia's physical issues are not improving as quickly as the French player would like. Already forced to withdraw from the Madrid tournament, the world No. 117 is still not at 100% and continues to be hindered by her back.
As a result, the 31-year-old player has had to pull out of the WTA 1000 in Rome, which begins next week in the Italian capital. Garcia confirmed her withdrawal via an Instagram story and hopes to be ready to compete at Roland-Garros.
"Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play in Rome. I’m very sad to miss one of my favorite tournaments on the tour. It’s time to keep working to be in good shape for Paris," she wrote on social media.
Last year, the 2022 WTA Finals champion reached the third round in the same Rome tournament before being eliminated by Danielle Collins (6-3, 6-3). This season, Garcia has only won three matches on the main tour and has dropped out of the top 100 for the first time since June 2013.
Absent since the Miami tournament, Caroline Garcia had already been forced to withdraw from the start of the clay-court season, missing the Rouen and Madrid tournaments, as well as being unable to represent France in the BJK Cup.
