Gasquet on his encounters with Nadal: "It's a huge regret not to have beaten him".
Richard Gasquet will end his career in 2025 at Roland-Garros.
With just a few months to go before that special moment, the man from La Biterrois spoke to RMC about the retirement of another player, Rafael Nadal, whom he has known since he was very young.
Gasquet arrived on the professional circuit at a very young age, quickly becoming one of the great hopes of French tennis.
His second encounter with Nadal at Monte-Carlo in 2005 is well remembered.
At the time, it was impossible to imagine that, almost 20 years later, the Frenchman would be posting a record of 18 defeats and no wins in their head-to-head encounters. A fact he returned to on The Moscato Show: "I've lost 18 times to him, it's horrible.
I'm not going to sell you a false trick by telling you it's a pleasure. It's a huge regret for me not to have beaten him.
Now he's gone, so I won't beat him again. I'd known him since I was young, so I wasn't particularly afraid.
I beat him when I was 13 and I thought I could beat him in Monte Carlo (in 2005).
After that, I had a hard time and he progressed, there's no doubt about it. It became difficult. When you're an athlete and you've never beaten a guy, it hurts."
