Gaston and Moutet Advance to Quarterfinals at Phoenix Challenger

The Phoenix Challenger, scheduled between the two Masters 1000 events of the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami, continues to attract significant interest from top 100 players, some of whom use it as preparation before heading to Florida.
Two French players have secured their spots in the quarterfinals of this Arizona tournament. Hugo Gaston and Corentin Moutet will represent France in the next round. Gaston delivered an impressive performance to defeat Reilly Opelka (7-6, 6-3) and will face João Fonseca for a place in the semifinals.
The 18-year-old Brazilian, who has been a breakout star on the ATP Tour in recent months, lost in the second round at Indian Wells to Jack Draper but bounced back to overcome Jan-Lennard Struff in a tightly contested match (6-1, 4-6, 6-3).
Meanwhile, Moutet eliminated the third seed, Pedro Martinez (6-4, 6-3), and will face Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals. The unpredictable Kazakh player prevailed against Rinky Hijikata (6-2, 5-7, 6-3) and will aim for his first semifinal of 2025 against the Frenchman.
The other quarterfinal matchups feature top seed Nuno Borges against Colton Smith, and Kei Nishikori against second seed Flavio Cobolli, who has struggled with confidence early this season (six losses in six matches before starting the Phoenix tournament).
