Heartbreaking Turnaround for Moutet: Frenchman Cracks Against Tien in Shanghai

After an absolutely wild scenario, Corentin Moutet, in control against Learner Tien for a set and a half, ultimately fell to the young American player.
In a left-handed duel, Corentin Moutet and Learner Tien were battling for a spot in the third round of the Shanghai Masters 1000. Propelled to the top of the draw and seeded following Carlos Alcaraz's withdrawal, the Frenchman could have taken advantage of the situation but faced a tricky second round against Learner Tien.
The 19-year-old player had just competed in the first final of his career at the ATP 500 in Beijing against Jannik Sinner. This was also the third encounter between the two players on the main tour in 2025.
So far, Moutet and Tien are tied with one win each. This third duel lived up to all expectations in a match with an improbable script. While Moutet was leading 6-4, 3-0, and 30/15 on his serve, the Frenchman then experienced a slump that saw his opponent catch up. Tien won four consecutive games before leveling the match at one set apiece.
Moutet didn't let himself be discouraged and started the third set strong, breaking serve right away. But once again, Tien, ranked 36th in the world, found the resources to turn the situation around. In the end, it was he who prevailed (4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in 2 hours and 36 minutes of play).
After his victory against Miomir Kecmanovic (4-6, 6-3, 6-4), he advances to the third round where he will face Cameron Norrie, who defeated Arthur Cazaux in three sets (6-3, 0-6, 7-6 in 2 hours and 6 minutes).
