Cori Gauff defeated Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-4 in the United Cup in a match of excellent quality.

Unfortunately for the Pole, she was unable to hold on to her break lead in the second set, with problems in her left thigh requiring medical intervention.

She had already had problems with her right thigh against Elena Rybakina and Katie Boulter. These physical worries bode ill for her ahead of the Australian Open.

Hubert Hurkacz will try to bring the two teams back on level terms against Taylor Fritz, who has the opportunity to seal the fate of this match and offer the United States the United Cup.

I propose the following changes to the rules:

1...a walķover will not be a loss. We have no control of player's health. If he or she is entered in a contest we expect them to play.

2...an incomplete match is not a loss. If a player forfeits we pick another match if there are more to choose.

3...this also applies if TT cancels a match. TT will not take hours to decide an outcome.
