Gauff Honest About World No. 1 Spot: "I'd Rather Win More Trophies"

Qualified for the quarterfinals in Rome, Gauff will aim for another semifinal after reaching that stage last year. A finalist in Madrid, the American is still chasing her third WTA 1000 title. Ranked No. 3 in the world, the 21-year-old was asked about her future goals, particularly regarding the world No. 1 spot:
"I don’t really think about it because I really want another Grand Slam, so honestly, it’s not something on my mind. Obviously, it’s something I want to achieve in my career and maintain.
I’d rather win more trophies, Grand Slam titles, but obviously, I’d want to get there if the wins come," she said in an interview reported by *Tennis Up To Date*.
In the next round, she will face young Russian Andreeva, whom she has always beaten so far (3-0). Their last meeting was in Madrid, where the American won in straight sets (7-5, 6-1).
