Germany eliminate Brazil from the United Cup
The third day of the United Cup begins in Australia.
Germany make their 2025 debut against Brazil, already under pressure after their opening defeat by China.
The first match pits Laura Siegemund against Beatriz Haddad Maia. After more than 2h30 of battle, it was the German player who finally got the better of her opponent (6-3, 1-6, 6-4).
This was the second singles defeat for Haddad Maia, ranked 17th in the world, since the start of the United Cup.
In the second head-to-head, Alexander Zverev could already give the Mannschaft the winning point against Thiago Monteiro.
It didn't take long for the world No. 2 to get his season off to a flying start. In the end, he won 6-4, 6-4 in 1h17.
Even before the mixed doubles between Siegemund/Puetz and Alves/Matos, Germany is assured of a final qualifier against China in the last group match.
As a result, Brazil, already beaten by the Asian nation in the opening match, is eliminated from the United Cup.
