Goran is very tough on me, but I need that," Tsitsipas appreciates Ivanisevic's methods
Having fallen outside the top 25, Stefanos Tsitsipas made the decision to hire Goran Ivanisevic as his coach at the start of the grass season.
While the partnership didn’t get off to a flying start—Tsitsipas exiting Halle in the second round—the Greek is convinced the work will pay off in the long run. In comments reported by Express, he says he values the advice he’s receiving:
"I could have benefited from Goran’s presence three or four years ago. He would have taught me things I’m learning now a bit earlier. I feel like I’ve wasted time not growing as a player, practicing the same methods, the same things for years and years.
I’m at a stage in my career where I want something new, fresh, exciting, and with a different approach. I’d say Goran is strict and very tough on me. Any other player would get scared and think, ‘How dare he talk to me like that?’ You know? He takes it personally.
But I need that—I need the truth, and I need someone who’s tough on me. And that’s the foundation I’ll build on. Of course, he respects me, but it’s the approach and execution I need to get to work and show the real Stefanos, who’s been missing these past two years.
