"Grand Slam or World No. 1": Medvedev Gives His Answer

In an interview shared by Tennis World Italia, Medvedev responded to the following dilemma: winning a Grand Slam or being world No. 1. According to him, the choice is easy:
"100% Grand Slam. First of all, when you win a tournament of that level, very often you also get a big boost in the world rankings. You earn a lot of points, and you can certainly get closer to the world No. 1 spot.
Both things are important, but I think a Major holds more value. I believe only Marcelo Rios has been No. 1 without winning one. People talk about it a lot, but they almost never say the opposite: 'This is the guy who won a Grand Slam but wasn’t world No. 1.' No one says that."
In the meantime, Medvedev has been fortunate enough to achieve both: the Grand Slam in 2021 (US Open) and the ATP No. 1 ranking in March 2022.
