He Can Achieve the Calendar Grand Slam," Binaghi Raves After Sinner's Wimbledon Victory
With two top 10 players and three ranked among the world’s top 50, Italian tennis has never been in better shape. A four-time Grand Slam champion, Sinner has emerged as the leader and has already surpassed the combined achievements of all Italians in the history of the sport. A feat that Italian Tennis Federation President Angelo Binaghi was keen to highlight:
"He’s an incredible guy, one of the smartest I’ve ever met. He’s a great man. If I, having witnessed decades of Italian tennis, could have drawn the champion of the future, I would have drawn him exactly like this. I believe he has all the time and the chance to try for the (calendar) Grand Slam in the coming years. Having the strongest player in the world has changed the history of our tennis.
But it’s also important to remember he’s not alone. Paolini won in Rome, Musetti is ranked No. 7, and we hope he can qualify for the ATP Finals. Additionally, we have Cobolli breaking into the top 20, Matteo Berrettini whom we need to bring back, and Sonego, who continues to deliver strong performances in Grand Slams.
