Sinner, Fritz, Zverev, or Draper: Which Top 10 Players Have the Most Points to Defend During the U.S. Swing?
After the conclusion of Wimbledon, the ATP Tour continues this week with clay-court tournaments (Gstaad and Bastad) and the first leg of the U.S. hard-court swing in Los Cabos.
However, the biggest names in men’s tennis will take a well-deserved break before returning—some next week in Washington and others at the Toronto Masters 1000.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who surpassed the 12,000-point mark this Monday, has 3,200 points to defend after winning last year’s Cincinnati tournament and the US Open. He’ll be under pressure compared to his main rival, Carlos Alcaraz, who had a disappointing U.S. swing last year with early exits in the second round of both Cincinnati and New York.
As a result, the Spaniard will only need to recover 60 small points and will have a great opportunity to close the gap on Sinner.
Taylor Fritz, a finalist at the US Open, will need to defend 1,360 points—a total nearly matched by Alexander Zverev, who is putting 1,260 points on the line (quarterfinals in Montreal, semifinals in Cincinnati, and quarterfinals in New York).
New to the top five this season, Jack Draper will return to Flushing Meadows with a new status. Last year, he burst onto the scene by reaching his first Grand Slam semifinal. That performance means he’ll have to defend 1,010 points.
Finally, Novak Djokovic, still a force in big tournaments at 38, could lose just 300 points. A four-time US Open champion, the Serb was shockingly eliminated by Alexei Popyrin in the third round last year.
