Her ability to find a way to win while playing C-level tennis is incredible," says Davenport about Gauff's debut in Montreal
Before facing Veronika Kudermetova in the third round in Montreal, Coco Gauff had to endure a tough battle against Danielle Collins (7-5, 4-6, 7-6) two days ago.
The world No. 2, having an off day both in serving and exchanging shots, committed 23 double faults and 74 unforced errors. Asked on the Tennis Channel set after the match, former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport spoke about Gauff's ability to win these types of matches:
"It was interesting to see her constantly looking at her grip while serving. It seemed like they were trying to change something about the serve. She wasn't comfortable yet. They know it's an issue and that she lacked confidence.
Her ball toss was going in all directions. But she ended up winning. Her ability to find a way to win while playing C-level tennis is incredible. She did a fantastic job managing her emotions.
