"I was born in Canada, so winning here means a lot to me," Raducanu's emotion after her victory in Montreal

After defeating Ruse in the first round (6-2, 6-4), Raducanu continued her strong momentum by dominating Stearns with the same score. A semifinalist in Washington, the 22-year-old player is in great form at the start of the American tour. Interviewed on court after her win, she made sure to thank the many supporters present, also mentioning the importance of this tournament for her:
"I just want to say thank you! I saw the British flag, and it gave me a boost in the key moments, so really, thank you. I was born in Canada, so winning here means so much to me. I’m really happy to be through to the next round."
Regarding her performance, Raducanu went into more detail about her duel against the American.
"We’ve played twice in the past and always had very long matches. I’m really pleased with how I handled this match. I lost focus a bit at times in the second set, and she took advantage. But I’m very happy to have come through against a top opponent and also happy to extend my stay in Montreal."
Qualified for the third round, she will face Wimbledon finalist Anisimova.
