Hit in the hip, Svitolina withdraws from Beijing

A blow for Elina Svitolina. Just a few days after her disappointment in the Billie Jean King Cup semifinal against Italy, where Ukraine fell short of the finals, the 29-year-old player is forced to withdraw from the WTA 1000 in Beijing.

The reason: a hip injury that prevents her from participating in the main draw.

As the number 11 seed in the tournament, her spot is taken by Magda Linette, who becomes the number 33 seed and will receive a first-round bye.
