"How to Beat Carlos Alcaraz?" Federer Shares His Strategy
Recent winner of the ATP 500 in Tokyo against Taylor Fritz (6-4, 6-4), Carlos Alcaraz seems almost unbeatable given the many weapons in his arsenal. While many wonder how to overcome the native of El Palmar, Roger Federer gave his opinion in an interview shared by Tennis World Italia:
"You would need a mix of aggression and defensive resilience. Obviously, his physical qualities can create doubt because, even when you hit an easy forehand that is normally a winner, he can find solutions.
Then, I think we also need to talk about the surface. Not all surfaces allow you to play at full speed. Against Alcaraz, you sometimes have to make him play badly, which is obviously very difficult. What I've seen is that he is capable of covering the court in an impressive way, and with his speed, he goes everywhere.
So, we have to approach the match with the mindset that we will always need to hit one more shot or win an extra point. If I were to face him today, I would obviously play very aggressively. I would keep attacking him to try to make him uncomfortable and I would vary my game."
While a clash between the Spaniard and the Swiss will never be able to take place, there's no doubt that their duel would have been incredible to watch.
