Humbert likely to withdraw from Davis Cup, Moutet and Mpetshi Perricard considered as replacements
On September 12 and 13, France will travel to Croatia for the next stage of Davis Cup qualifiers. Under Paul-Henri Mathieu, the French team will compete on Croatian clay for a spot in the Final 8 this November.
Initially, the French captain had selected Ugo Humbert, Benjamin Bonzi, Arthur Rinderknech, and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. A fifth player was expected to join the group in the coming days for the flight to Osijek, which will host the match.
However, according to information gathered by L'Équipe, Ugo Humbert—who was eliminated early at the US Open and had a back injury before competing in New York—is unlikely to be fit to play. As a result, two players are set to directly replace the Metz native.
Corentin Moutet and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard have reportedly been seen training with Bonzi in recent days, while the selected players will fly to Croatia this Sunday, September 7, to complete their on-site preparation for the match.
