Hurkacz reflects on his victory over Federer: I hope I'll be remembered for something else.

For several seasons now, Hubert Hurkacz has been a sure thing on the ATP circuit. Buoyed by his exceptionally efficient serve and ever-improving solidity in the exchange, the Pole is beginning to build a fine career for himself.

At the age of 27, Hurkacz has just achieved a career-high ranking of 7th in the world. Despite this, he still suffers from a certain lack of recognition, particularly among the general public.

Ultimately, the performance for which most non-specialists know the 1.96 m (6'5") player is above all his victory over Roger Federer at Wimbledon 2021 (6-3, 7-6, 6-0), the last match of the 'Maestro's' career.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Wimbledon tournament, which begins on Monday, Hurkacz looked back on this legendary match:

"I was pretty confident in my game at the time, I knew I was playing good tennis on this Wimbledon grass and especially after beating Daniil Medvedev in five sets. I felt I was in a good position and just tried to do my best.

It was stressful, but I was also very excited. When I was a kid, I always admired Roger, he was my idol. He still is. He's won so many times at Wimbledon, and to have the chance to play with him on this unique court was something I'd always wanted to do.

I hope I can do well in the future and be remembered for more than just my win over Roger. But it was really special to play on Centre Court with Roger, just to feel the atmosphere.

It was very noisy. I'd never experienced anything like it before and I'm glad I did."
