"I always say this tournament is special for me," Alcaraz's first words after his second consecutive Roland-Garros title
Sunday, June 8, 2025, will go down in tennis history. After 5 hours and 30 minutes of a monumental battle, Carlos Alcaraz saved three match points against Jannik Sinner before finally clinching his second consecutive Roland-Garros title (4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6) in a legendary and unforgettable final. At the end of the match, the Spaniard, who served for the title, had been broken (just like the Italian in the fourth set). Mentally, Alcaraz ultimately dominated the super tie-break (won 10-2).
During the trophy ceremony, Carlos Alcaraz, as tradition dictates, gave a speech in front of the Philippe-Chatrier crowd after receiving the Coupe des Mousquetaires from André Agassi, the 1999 champion of the Porte d’Auteuil tournament. He had comforting words for a valiant Sinner, who came agonizingly close to his first Parisian crown.
"I want to start with my opponent. Jannik, the level you’ve shown over these two weeks has been breathtaking. Congratulations on your incredible run this fortnight. Hats off to your team as well—I know how hard you all work every day and how much you want to win this tournament here. I know you’ll become champion here one day. Not just once, but many times.
"It’s a privilege to share the court with you; we’re making history together. I’m just so happy to share this journey with you, not just here but at other tournaments throughout the year. You’re a huge inspiration for kids, and for me too. Thank you for inspiring me so much, and I wish you all the best for the future.
"I want to warmly thank my team and my family. I’m privileged to experience great things with all of you. I’ve been lucky to have so many people come from my hometown, Murcia, to support me. The support you’ve given me—not just today, but throughout the entire fortnight—has been incredible. For everyone who couldn’t make it and stayed home, this trophy is for you too.
"Thank you to everyone who makes this tournament possible. I always say this tournament is special to me. Every year, I can’t wait to come back. Thanks to the ball boys and girls, the line judges, the umpires. A special thanks to Amélie (Mauresmo) for her work. To the crowd—you’ve been such an important support for me. From the first practice before the opening round, you’ve been amazing. I can never thank you enough. You’ve been crucial—I carry you in my heart, and I love you. Thank you, Paris—see you next year," Alcaraz shared on court.
