"I can play much better than this," says Medvedev after his victory against Norrie in Beijing
Daniil Medvedev made a successful start in the Beijing tournament, defeating Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-4. Having dropped to 18th place, the Russian is still seeking a confidence boost.
In an on-court interview after his win, he was asked: "You told us that in training you sometimes produce high-level tennis. To what extent was that the case today?"
To this question, Medvedev replied: "Not completely, but I didn't play badly. I served quite well, except for a few games. Same on the return. I had many break opportunities.
I think I deserved the victory, given my game plan and statistics. I'm happy to have qualified. I can play much better than this. But the comeback happens step by step. Today, I took a small step forward."
Medvedev will have a good opportunity to test himself again in the next round when he faces Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
