I decided not to take the risk of aggravating my injury," Vondrousova reacts to her withdrawal
Marketa Vondrousova was unable to play her quarterfinal match at the US Open against Aryna Sabalenka. Having injured her knee in her previous match, the Czech player decided not to take any risks and withdrew.
She explained: "I'm sorry to announce that I have to withdraw from my quarterfinal match tonight due to a knee injury.
I did my best to come on court today, but during my warm-up I felt my knee again and, after consulting with the tournament doctor, I decided not to take the risk of aggravating my injury.
I appreciate the support I've received throughout the tournament and apologize to the fans who were looking forward to this match. I've had an amazing time here in New York and look forward to returning next year.
