"Take care of yourself and I hope you can recover quickly," Sabalenka's message to Vondrousova after her withdrawal
Aryna Sabalenka has advanced to the semifinals of the US Open. However, the world number one did not need to step onto Arthur Ashe Court, as her quarterfinal opponent, Marketa Vondrousova, withdrew after sustaining an injury during just ten minutes of practice on Tuesday.
While the nature of the Czech left-hander's injury is still unknown, Sabalenka did not hesitate to show her support for the 26-year-old player on social media.
"I am so sorry for Marketa after everything she has been through. She has been playing great tennis, and I know how painful this must be for her. Take care of yourself and I hope you can recover quickly," wrote the defending US Open champion in a story posted on her Instagram account.
