I don't see why clay wouldn't be her best surface," says Connors about Gauff
Jimmy Connors spoke about Coco Gauff following her victory at Roland Garros. He discussed her ability to play on clay and naturally included her among his favorites for Wimbledon.
Quoted by The Tennis Gazette, he said: "I don't see why clay wouldn't be her best surface, considering she’s managed to reduce her errors and better control her game—knowing when to keep the ball in play and when to take risks.
She moves exceptionally well and puts extra pressure on her opponent, forcing them to play one more shot. That’s where you apply that mental pressure.
We forget she’s only 21 and already has two Grand Slam titles. Winning a tournament like Roland Garros, especially the final against Sabalenka, gives her a huge confidence boost and elevates her game.
And Wimbledon is only three weeks away.
I can see winning a major giving a boost, but everyone knows Sabalenka choked big time and gifted Gauff the trophy. I beat players unequivocally my superiors on occasion and always because I had a really good day and they had a really bad day. That never boosted by my confidence. Why would it?
