Upon her arrival in Montreal, Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez surprised everyone with an unusual statement: "Hey guys, you know what I really want to do but haven’t done yet? Go on a romantic date." Following her remarks, the 22-year-old received over a hundred messages from people interested in meeting her.

While no updates had been shared since her announcement, Fernandez revealed in an interview with Tennis Channel that "a date" did indeed happen:

"I had a great time with him. He was funny and kind. It’s a bit tricky because a lot of the guys who messaged me are from abroad, so they were planning to fly here just to see me. I thought I couldn’t put them through that. So I waited one more day, and then I came across him—his message caught my attention.

When I asked if he had seen my video, he said no. His first message stood out, and then I checked his profile to make sure he was real. He seemed like a nice person, so I asked my family and team members for their opinions to ensure they were comfortable too. We had a second date, and we’re still in touch, so we’ll see how it goes.
