I have a very atypical and not very appreciated style," says Siegemund after qualifying for the Wimbledon quarterfinals
Laura Siegemund is one of the surprises of the 2025 Wimbledon edition. The German player secured her spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Solana Sierra and will now face Aryna Sabalenka.
At 37 years old, she will make her return to the Top 100 after the tournament. With her unique playing style and sometimes controversial personality, Siegemund addressed all of this in a press conference.
She stated: "I don’t base my game or my presence on the court on the goal of surprising my opponent; it’s simply the case for many of them. My style is very atypical, which makes it less appreciated.
I’ve always had a lot of variety in my game, but I’ve also managed to increase the aggressiveness of my baseline shots.
I can assure you I’m not looking for confrontation with my rivals, but I know I have some fairly controversial habits, like the time I take between points or my nonverbal language.
I do it for myself—I stay true to myself, and I don’t change my behavior based on who’s across the net or the context.
