"I have worked for many years to get here," says Munar
Currently ranked 36th in the world, his career-high ranking, Jaume Munar has taken stock of his season, which is the best of his career so far.
Munar has been rewarded for his efforts. Now 28 years old, the Spanish player is part of the Davis Cup team present in Bologna, which will compete in the Final 8 this week in Bologna.
A semi-finalist at the ATP 500 tournament in Basel as well as the ATP 250 tournament in Hong Kong at the very start of the season, he also reached the round of 16 at the US Open against Lorenzo Musetti. Before facing the Czech Republic in the coming days with his country, Munar reflected on his year.
"This year has been exceptional for me, more because of the tennis than the numbers or the wins. I think I have improved in practically all aspects of the game and I am simply a better player than before.
The leap forward was a bit radical, but the truth is that I have worked for many years to get here. And the Davis Cup is a reward for a fantastic season, not only for me, but also for everyone who works with me, who were also very happy to see me here. I want to make the most of it.
I am 28 years old and maturity obviously counts. Then, I think what made me progress this year is the continuity of all the work I have done over the years. I don't want to talk about transitions or critical moments in my career, but the player I am today is the result of many years of work.
It goes far beyond professionalism, and it's also thanks to the combination of all the people who have helped me, all the coaches who have taught me, and certainly thanks to the small changes I introduced in 2023 and late 2024, that the player I am today is more complete than before.
What I have achieved this year is a success, but it is not the one I am looking for. What I have achieved this year has opened a new door for me, a new world, but the road ahead is still long.
I firmly believe that I can become a better tennis player, but I am also aware that, given the difficulty of the tour and the competitiveness of all the players, I could also regress.
But as I said, I think the path I have opened is still long, not in terms of ranking or numbers, but in terms of the improvements I can make to my game.
And even during this very good year, the end of the season was even better than the beginning, and I think the trend can continue to improve. We will see where the future takes me, but I am far from satisfied with my current situation," Munar assured the media outlet Clay.
