"I hope there won’t be any more surprises among the top seeds," Sabalenka jokes after her Wimbledon win
Sabalenka overcame a tough opponent in Bouzkova in the second round of Wimbledon. As the world No. 1, the Belarusian is one of the few women's top seeds to reach this stage of the competition this year. She addressed the situation in her post-match interview with the organizers:
"I’m really happy to have won this match. We’ve had some tight battles in the past, so I’m very pleased to have come through. Honestly, it’s sad to see so many great players eliminated so early, but experience has taught me it’s better to focus on yourself. I hope there won’t be any more surprises among the top seeds."
Indeed, 11 of the 23 highest-ranked WTA players have already left the English capital.
For a spot in the quarterfinals, Sabalenka will face either Raducanu or Vondrousova, with their match scheduled as the third on Centre Court this Wednesday.
