Sabalenka Solidly Advances at Wimbledon
Sabalenka faced Bouzkova in the second round of Wimbledon. The two players had met three times on the tour, with the world No. 1 holding the advantage (2-1).
After narrowly clinching the first set in a tie-break (7-4), Sabalenka continued her momentum in the next set. Along the way, she became the player with the most tie-breaks won in WTA-level events this season (14/15), with the only loss coming against Ekaterina Alexandrova in Doha. After 1 hour and 34 minutes of play, she triumphed 7-6, 6-4 and secured her spot in the third round.
The Belarusian dominated her opponent thanks to her formidable power (41 winners) and an impressive percentage of points won after her first serve (89%). With this latest performance, she advances to the third round of the tournament for the third time and also notches her 45th win of the season (14-2 in Grand Slams).
For a place in the round of 16, she awaits the result between Raducanu and Vondrousova to determine her next opponent.
