I never imagined I would cry for someone else in the tennis world," Tsitsipas recalls Federer's farewell at the 2022 Laver Cup
Roger Federer bid farewell during the Laver Cup nearly three years ago. A moment shared with other players on the tour, including his longtime rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, as well as Stefanos Tsitsipas, who deeply admired the Swiss legend.
In an interview with Tennis365, the Greek player reflected on that emotional farewell that moved him to tears:
"That week was incredible and very emotional. That particular night, I cried. I never imagined I would cry for someone else in the tennis world besides myself. I kept thinking about how my dream began, how I looked up to Roger. And then there I was when he retired. It was deeply moving.
I felt something for him, and it still touches me today. He’s my idol. Seeing him leave like that—it’s a dream come true that I could never have hoped for.
