"I never imagined playing so well on grass," Swiatek's first words after her semifinal victory
Swiatek didn’t waste any time securing her 6th Grand Slam final. With a swift victory (1 hour 10 minutes) over world No. 35 Bencic in the Wimbledon semifinals (6-2, 6-0), the Polish player proved she has made massive strides on grass. Interviewed after the match, the former world No. 1 shared her thoughts on this latest achievement:
"Honestly, I never dreamed it would be possible to reach the final here. I’m so excited to be in it. I’m proud of myself, and tennis keeps surprising me. I’ve been through so many different moments on the court, even though I’m still young, but I never imagined playing this well on grass, so I’m really enjoying these two weeks. I think I’ve improved a lot in my movement, and I’m serving really well because I’m feeling confident.
As for my opponent, I don’t think I’ve faced her on the main tour before, but in juniors, yes. I know she can play incredible tennis—she loves fast surfaces because she hits flat and very quick. I’ll need to be proactive against a player like her, but I’ll prepare tactically for that tomorrow."
Swiatek, who has never lost a Major final, will now face American and world No. 12 Anisimova.
