"I really didn't expect to win here," Swiatek's first words after her Wimbledon victory
Winner of a historic final at Wimbledon, Swiatek delivered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to American Anisimova in less than an hour (57 minutes). A situation that hadn’t occurred in the women’s tournament since 1911 (Dorothea Douglass Chambers vs. Dora Boothby) and which allowed her to claim the first Wimbledon title of her career.
At the microphone during the trophy ceremony, the Polish player expressed great respect for her opponent and made sure to thank everyone who works with her:
"I’d like to congratulate Amanda for her incredible fortnight, no matter what happened today. I hope you play more finals—you have the game for it. I didn’t even dream of this title; it seemed too far, too high for me. I’ve won other Grand Slams, but I really didn’t expect to win here. Thank you to my whole team—we haven’t had an easy year.
There was a lot of pressure on me coming here, but this year I managed to feel better, especially thanks to all the people working here. Thank you also to the crowd. I’ll always remember those champagne corks popping when we’re about to serve (laughs)."
Swiatek remains undefeated in six Grand Slam finals. She has won the US Open in 2022 and the French Open in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
