"I see no reason why he couldn't win a Grand Slam," says Corretja about Rune

I see no reason why he couldn't win a Grand Slam, says Corretja about Rune

After reaching the final in Indian Wells and winning the Barcelona tournament this year, Holger Rune dreams of winning major titles. However, his lack of consistency in his performances raises questions. Alex Corretja, former French Open finalist, shares his opinion on the untapped potential of the young Dane.

Holger Rune, world number 11, hopes to fight again to win major titles in the coming weeks. The Dane, finalist of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 earlier this season, won the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona against Carlos Alcaraz, but has struggled to be consistent in his results for many months now.

Leader of his country during the Davis Cup match against Spain last weekend, he defeated Carreño Busta before losing the next day against Pedro Martinez, which led to Denmark's elimination.

Rune is ambitious and has assured in recent days that he wants to compete with and even beat Alcaraz and Sinner over time, but Alex Corretja, two-time French Open finalist, believes that the 22-year-old player will first need to pass several stages.

"Although he has achieved excellent results, I believe he has not yet expressed all his potential. He is still missing a few pieces to complete the puzzle. He needs to better understand who he is, both on and off the court.

What is important is that he analyzes the way he trains, how he competes on the court, and how he reacts in difficult moments. He also needs to study his opponents better. Holger (Rune) has a very strong, unique personality.

He is a true fighter, he works hard and he is hungry for results. He has already been among the world's top ten players and he has won a Masters 1000 (Paris-Bercy 2022), we do not forget that.

But, despite all this, he can do even more. He can still grow. I sincerely hope he will be successful, because I like his style of play. He brings something different to the court, and tennis needs players like him with his energy.

But to go far in the Grand Slams, you need to find a certain continuity, a certain balance. He still needs to discover how to achieve this. I see no reason why he couldn't win a Grand Slam. If he manages to put everything in place, he will be able to fight for major titles in the coming years," assured Alex Corretja for Punto de Break.
