I shouldn't have agreed to do that," Fritz reacts to viral video after ESPN ceremony
During the annual awards ceremony hosted by ESPN (the ESPYs), Fritz made headlines by responding to an influencer on-site. The American, slightly drunk after the dinner, stumbled over a question from "alfredopastadonn" (his TikTok username). The influencer asked him to calculate the total amount of 50 twenty-dollar bills. The world No. 4 responded:
"Let me think for a second… I drank too much tonight. I mean… That’s $10,000, what did you say again? Damn… I’m an idiot."
Following the video, the 27-year-old player addressed the incident during a press conference in Washington (reported by Tennis Up To Date).
"I shouldn’t have agreed to do that. I had just left the ESPYs after-party… At the same time, I was pretty surprised when I rewatched the clip because I thought I’d look completely wasted. But actually, I seemed pretty coherent. I don’t think you can really tell from the video.
I also know interviews can be traps. The influencer told me he was going to interview me, ask me questions, and then it turned into a math problem. It was a total disaster.
