I thought I wouldn’t win a single game," admits Lehecka after heavy defeat to Sinner at Roland Garros

I thought I wouldn’t win a single game, admits Lehecka after heavy defeat to Sinner at Roland Garros

In just 1 hour and 34 minutes of play, Jannik Sinner ended Jiri Lehecka’s hopes in the third round of Roland Garros, winning 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.

With no answers against the world No. 1, the Czech player admitted in the press conference that Sinner was simply too strong:

"I thought I wouldn’t win a single game. Everyone saw what happened today. I was happy to win a game, seeing how Sinner was playing and dominating me. Honestly, I’m congratulating myself for managing to win three games.

I don’t think I could have won by doing anything differently. He just played an incredible match and kicked my ass.

If I had lost this match to another player, I would have been frustrated. But this is the world No. 1—his coach even came up to me and said he played a great match. I’m happy to have reached the third round and won two good matches."

When asked which player could stop Sinner at this level, Lehecka unsurprisingly mentioned Carlos Alcaraz:

"The only one who can beat him is Alcaraz. He’s a player who thrives in these conditions, moves incredibly well, and hits heavy topspin. He knows which shot to play, when to drop a shot or come to the net.

Now that I mention it, the only points I won today were at the net, and that’s something Carlos knows how to do. If Sinner maintains this level, his opponent doesn’t matter.

He serves well, returns well, and controls the match. If I had to imagine someone who can beat him, it’s Alcaraz—though it also depends on the conditions they’re playing in.
