"I turned off the TV at 5-0," Safina comments on the Wimbledon final between Swiatek and Anisimova

I turned off the TV at 5-0, Safina comments on the Wimbledon final between Swiatek and Anisimova

Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek faced off this Saturday for the Wimbledon title. However, the match took an unexpected turn and ended abruptly.

Some, like Dinara Safina, chose not to watch until the end. She stated: "I turned off the TV in the first set at 5-0. I couldn’t watch anymore. I was very sad, it was tough.

To some extent, I understood Amanda’s state. But Iga is incredible, she’s a great champion, of course."

Despite this, Safina believes Anisimova should focus on the positives of the tournament, as she still reached the final of the 2025 edition: "I hope Amanda doesn’t get too upset.

I’m sure if someone had told her a week before Wimbledon that she’d make the final, I don’t think she would’ve refused.

But the result—yes, sometimes there are defeats like this, when it’s just not your day, you play very poorly, nothing works, you play terribly, and your opponent overwhelms you.

The most important thing, though, is not to get discouraged, not to lose your temper, and to move on." she told *Best Tennis Podcast*.
