"The way they treated me was really not pleasant," Swiatek discusses Polish media after her Wimbledon title
Iga Swiatek ended a year-long title drought at Wimbledon. On the London grass—her least favored surface—the Polish player claimed her 6th Grand Slam title on a third different surface after decisively defeating Amanda Anisimova in Saturday’s final (6-0, 6-0).
After months of doubts, the player who will reclaim her spot on the WTA rankings podium this Monday appeared at the post-victory press conference and addressed the criticism from Polish media in recent months.
"As public figures and athletes, we can’t react to everything that happens. We have to focus on ourselves. Sometimes that’s easy, but other times, it’s harder.
These past few months, unfortunately, the way Polish media treated me and my team was really not pleasant. I hope they’ll leave me alone and let me do my job.
I think you can see that we know what we’re doing. I have the best people around me. I’ve already proven a lot. I know people always want more, but this is my own process, my own life, and my own career.
I hope they’ll let me work freely the way I see fit in the future," the 24-year-old player told *The Tennis Letter* after her triumph in the English capital.
