"I wanted to get my revenge," Ruud makes a successful comeback in Gstaad
Casper Ruud had been absent from the courts since Roland-Garros and his second-round defeat at Roland-Garros due to a knee injury.
The Norwegian made his return to competition this Wednesday in Gstaad against Dominic Stricker.
Though occasionally sluggish, Ruud secured a 7-5, 7-6 victory in 1 hour and 46 minutes of play. In his post-match interview, he said: "It was a very tough match. I’ve lost to him before in Switzerland, so I wanted to get my revenge.
He plays tennis fearlessly, which isn’t easy. I’m very happy to be back—this is an important win for me.
I’m used to the weather conditions here; in Norway, it’s the same—you can experience all kinds of weather in a single day."
He will face either Juan Manuel Cerundolo or David Goffin in the quarterfinals.
