"I was a little stressed," admits Monnet one step away from passing the qualifying hurdle at Roland-Garros

Carole Monnet is just one step away from the main draw at Roland-Garros. Competing in the qualifiers, the 23-year-old Frenchwoman, ranked 227th in the world, defeated Petra Martic (2-6, 7-5, 7-5) and then her compatriot Fiona Ferro (7-5, 6-2) and will enter the main draw if she succeeds this Thursday against Kristina Dmitruk, a 21-year-old Belarusian player (221st in the WTA).
The possibility of Monnet overcoming the qualifying hurdle is therefore very real. After her victory against Ferro, the native of Boyarka in Ukraine went to the mixed zone and spoke to the journalists.
"It was the first time I played on the Suzanne-Lenglen Court, that I faced Fiona (Ferro), and played in front of so many people. It wasn't easy, I admit I was a bit stressed. I tried to play my game, to assert myself and show what I was capable of. I'm quite satisfied with that.
The atmosphere at Lenglen, you have to be there to experience it. It's simply fabulous and fantastic. I love this court, it's my favorite of all the Grand Slams. We're going to take it step by step, I'm going to savor this victory, I'm not going to think immediately about the next match.
It means a lot to me, I don't have the words. I started playing tennis at 8 years old, I was born in Ukraine. When you're a tennis player and you know my story, when you see where I started from, it's a little child's dream coming true, it's crazy," Monnet said to Tennis Actu TV.
