I was far from the level I show now," Fritz discusses the 10-0 loss to Djokovic

By defeating Machac (6-4, 6-3, 6-3), Fritz has once again reached the quarterfinals of the US Open. Now facing the four-time tournament champion, Djokovic, he is well aware of the daunting task ahead.
Questioned by the press, last year's finalist reflected on his past duels with the Serbian. With a 0-10 record in their head-to-head matches, the world No. 5 hopes to break this streak:
"In my mind, I don’t think about all the losses I suffered against Novak five years ago. I was far from the level I show now. What I remember is when we faced each other at the ATP Finals.
I know that in the last few matches we played, there were opportunities. I just wasn’t able to capitalize on the key moments. But that’s what the best players do—they don’t give you the win in those moments."
Although the Serbian seems beatable to many observers, Fritz remains cautious, especially since the former world No. 1 is coming off three consecutive Grand Slam semifinals:
"I wouldn’t say at all that Novak’s aura has faded. No matter what happens, he’s always there, and he holds practically all the tennis records.
What has changed is that there are now players who are improving and capable of beating him. I think when it comes to Grand Slams, his level is still the same as before.
