I wasn't smart at 21 and 22, Auger-Aliassime reflects on his progress

Felix Auger-Aliassime is having an excellent tournament at the US Open. After back-to-back wins against Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev, he has advanced to the quarterfinals and will face Alex de Minaur this Wednesday for a spot in the semifinals.

In a press conference, the Canadian admitted he has learned from his youthful mistakes and is currently likely in the best form of his career.

In remarks shared by Tennis Actu, he stated: "I feel like I'm at my best because my main weapons, my forehand and my serve, are now much more consistent.

I also think I've greatly improved my return, and I change direction and height on my backhand more effectively than before. For me, the key is knowing myself better and making the right decisions.

In 2023, I suffered a serious injury, I changed my team, and now I feel like we're all very much in sync and communicating well.

At 21 and 22, I wasn't smart; I played through pain and didn't stop when I should have. That led to injuries, doubts about my tennis, and mental struggles.

At that age, I took a lot of things for granted; I didn't value my position as much as I do today, and I also didn't have the same understanding of the demands of the highest level.
