"If you face this kind of hitter in top form, unexpected things can happen," Toni Nadal reveals the direct competitor to Sinner and Alcaraz for Wimbledon
With his nephew Rafael, Toni Nadal reached the Wimbledon final five times, winning two titles. In an interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport, the 64-year-old shared his perspective on the 2025 edition of the English tournament. According to him, an unexpected player could surprise the favorites Sinner and Alcaraz:
"Under normal conditions, a Sinner-Alcaraz final at Wimbledon would be very predictable, but we're talking about a very special Grand Slam, and there are always surprises on grass. If you face a big hitter like Ben Shelton in top form, unexpected things can happen.
Grass is a tricky surface, where the flow of a match can quickly get out of control. With his powerful serve, he could be a very dangerous opponent on Sinner or Alcaraz's path."
Recently in the top 10, Shelton has had a high-quality season following his semi-final in Australia and will arrive at Wimbledon remembering his round of 16 from last year. The American also reached the semi-finals in Stuttgart, lost in the tie-break against Zverev.
