I’ll have to give my best to beat him," Djokovic says ahead of facing Sinner at Wimbledon
Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner will clash on Friday in the Wimbledon semifinals. On one side, the 38-year-old Serb is aiming for a seventh consecutive final, while Sinner will try to reach the tournament’s last stage for the first time in his career.
Still standing despite Alcaraz and Sinner’s dominance since 2024, Djokovic spoke in a press conference about this new challenge and his motivation level:
"It’s a fact: I’m much older than them. I also said on the court that it motivates me to see how much I can challenge them. I lost in three sets against Jannik in the Roland-Garros semifinals. I think I played a solid match, though I could have done even better. He was the better player in the key moments. Now, I have a new opportunity.
For me, that’s what matters most: being in the late stages of Grand Slams and playing against the best player in the world right now. Alcaraz and him are the leaders of men’s tennis. I couldn’t ask for a better challenge than this.
I’ll prepare my body for what promises to be a very physical battle. I hope to rise to the occasion and be able to last potentially five sets. I’ll have to give my best to beat Jannik. That’s the only thing on my mind right now. Putting myself in the best physical and mental condition to fight with him for as long as needed.
