I've never beaten him here," Sinner discusses his upcoming semifinal clash with Djokovic at Wimbledon
Jannik Sinner has secured his fourth consecutive Grand Slam semifinal, becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat since Rafael Nadal between 2008 and 2009.
During his post-match press conference after defeating Ben Shelton, the world No. 1 addressed the right elbow discomfort that has been bothering him since Monday:
"Yesterday, I hit balls for 20 minutes without serving or going 100%. But I always tried to at least put myself in a position to be on court and give it a try. Mentally, I had to be ready.
This morning during warm-up, I felt pretty good, so there weren’t too many doubts about my ability to play. It was more about knowing what percentage I could compete at. And today, it was very high. So I’m satisfied."
As at Roland-Garros, Sinner will face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. This will be their third meeting on the London grass, with Djokovic winning their previous two encounters—in the 2022 quarterfinals and the 2023 semifinals. The Italian briefly touched on the upcoming matchup:
"Novak and I know each other well. We’ve played against each other many times. We know what works and what doesn’t. I’ve never beaten him at Wimbledon. It’ll be a big challenge.
