"I'm just a sparring partner today," Djokovic jokes during practice with Alcaraz
Alcaraz and Djokovic had the privilege of stepping together onto the legendary grass of Wimbledon just days before the tournament begins. Normally off-limits to protect the surface ahead of the first matches, the two players were able to hit balls for a full 45 minutes on Centre Court.
With his usual humor, the Serb didn’t hesitate to speak in front of one of the cameras by the court:
"We’re privileged to be the first to play on this court. I’m privileged because he’s the defending champion—he has the right, while I’m just a sparring partner today. So I’m glad he chose me (laughs)."
As for their first-round matches, Alcaraz will kick things off against Fognini. Djokovic, meanwhile, will face the Frenchman Müller.
