"I'm not sure he can dethrone Sinner and Alcaraz," Isner analyzes the future of rising star Fonseca
On *The Nothing Major* podcast, Isner analyzed the situation of the young Brazilian sensation Fonseca. While he firmly believes in the 18-year-old's potential, he remains skeptical about his ability to surpass the two current best players—Sinner and Alcaraz—even in the distant future.
"He's only 18. I remember Sinner at the same age, and he was nowhere near as good as he is today. I know we’re all very excited about Fonseca, and for the health of our sport, I truly believe he can be in the conversation and become one of the top four favorites to win every Grand Slam he enters.
That said, I’m not entirely convinced Fonseca can dethrone Sinner and Alcaraz. But he’ll be up there. It’s hard to say he’ll be as good as Sinner in four years. He won’t win four Slams in two years, but I think he could grab one or two within two or three years."
For context, Fonseca has become the first player from the 2006 generation to break into the top 50. Now, the question remains: what result will he achieve at the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year?
