Insolite - Medvedev bids farewell to the umpire he raged against at the Australian Open 2022
During the Australian Open 2022 semi-final, Daniil Medvedev had a very tense interaction with the chair umpire, annoyed by the behavior of Stefanos Tsitsipas' father, whom he accused of coaching.
Jaume Campistol, who was in the umpire's chair that day, had to endure the Russian's outburst (see video below): "Answer me! Can his father speak between points? How can you referee a Grand Slam semi-final when you're so bad? Look at me when I'm talking to you!"
Almost three years after this sequence, the Spanish chair umpire has decided to retire.
On hearing the news, Medvedev decided to post a photo on his X account (see publication below) of the latter with these few words: "Man, lots of good memories on the court (laughs). I wish you a peaceful retirement".
A way of remembering this interaction for which Medvedev was fined 11,000 euros.
