Medvedev sets the tone for 2025: "I'm focusing on the best way to evolve".
Daniil Medvedev's 2024 was not his most successful year. For the first time since 2017, the Russian concluded a season without winning a single title.
His last trophy came in Rome in 2023, and he lost in the final of the Australian Open and Indian Wells Masters 1000 earlier in the year.
In an interview with Russian media outlet Kommersant, the world's fifth-ranked player spoke of the difficulties he has encountered in recent months.
He also promised to continue giving his all to win the most prestigious trophies.
"Let's put it this way: I'm starting to feel that it was much easier to recover after certain matches before.
Maybe when I was 23, I was running faster, flying around the court like I had wings," says the US Open 2021 winner.
"Now I'm using the experience I've gained. I'm not focusing on my age, but on the best way to evolve.
There are a lot of players who play until they're 35 or even older, a trend we see in other sports too. Athletes are paying more attention to their eating habits".
Medvedev praises his consistency over the years
On the other hand, and despite his recent poor results, Medvedev is still in the top 5. He explains the reasons for his stability at the highest level.
"Firstly, of course, my tennis. After all, I play well. If we're talking about character traits, then, probably, the desire to get the most out of myself in training and the constant desire to fight.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But, as you play quite a few tennis tournaments during the year, in the end, your level gives the appropriate result," he elaborated.
Daniil Medvedev went on to talk about his major ambitions over the coming months: "Of course I want to win Grand Slams.
Probably, some of the finals I've played, I could win. Am I resentful about that? No, probably not.
But every new tournament is a new chance, a new challenge, and I'll keep fighting. At the end of the day, titles in tennis are the most important thing."
