Lorenzo Musetti reached his first career semifinal at Roland-Garros by defeating Frances Tiafoe.
During the second set, where he was struggling against his opponent, the Italian hit a ball with his foot that ended up striking one of the line judges. The action earned him a warning and, unsurprisingly, sparked controversy.
Speaking to ESPN, the world No. 7 briefly addressed the incident:
"It was an accident... I didn’t mean for it to happen. I don’t know what happened with the ball. It’s an unfortunate incident. I wanted to apologize. The warning was deserved. From that moment on, I started playing better. I became more patient, and that was the key.
Go figure.
That was no accident, he literally kicked the ball.
