It was complicated to work with him," says Piatti about Raonic
Absent from the tour since the Paris Olympics, Milos Raonic has been dealing with physical issues for several years now. Injured in his right shoulder, the Canadian hopes to make his comeback on grass. Riccardo Piatti, who coached the player, discussed the challenges with Tennis Channel:
"I really liked Milos. I was coaching Gasquet at the time, and when he came onto the tour and started winning, I felt this guy could beat the best—Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. He had a completely different game than theirs. He could have destroyed them with his serve and forehand. Milos was very intelligent. I told myself that if I ever got the chance to coach him, the goal would obviously be to make him number one.
I wasn’t lucky, because he became world number three. We worked together for a while, but he was always injured. It was difficult to work with him because it’s hard to maintain consistency in training and performance over two or three years when you’re often injured.
