"It will be a great final," Anisimova sets the stage for upcoming duel against Maria at Queen’s
Amanda Anisimova has secured her spot in the final of the WTA 500 tournament at Queen’s. The American, ranked 15th in the world, defeated Zheng Qinwen (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) and will face Tatjana Maria in a bid to claim her second title of the season, following her victory at the WTA 1000 in Doha.
After her win against the Chinese player, the 23-year-old reflected on her performance before discussing the upcoming final against the surprising 37-year-old German, who has taken down three top-20 players in this tournament (Muchova, Rybakina, Keys).
"Every time we’ve played each other (Zheng), it’s been a huge battle, and I was really relieved after the match point. She’s a great player, always able to raise her level.
I knew I had to adapt, that I needed to change a few things compared to our last matches. I’m happy with how I managed to stay calm throughout the match.
It’s incredible to see what Tatjana (Maria) is doing in this tournament—her family is so cute. I’ve seen her kids everywhere. It’s really special for her, but I know it’s going to be a great final," Anisimova concluded in her remarks to WTA media.
